Technical Seminar
April 8th, 14:10-14:40: Technical presentation presented by Johan Pettersson
Abstract: Bloom, a sandy or grainy texture caused by large crystal formation, is a common challenge when formulating with natural butters like shea. While strategies such as optimizing processing conditions and using compatible crystallizing agents are well-documented, the role of the liquid phase remains underexplored. This presentation addresses incompatibility in blends and explores how the polarity of the liquid phase plays a critical role in nucleation rates, crystal growth, and the time taken to reach the stable form. It provides formulators with fresh insights and practical tactics to mitigate bloom, influence product texture and aesthetics, and maintain stability under diverse conditions.
